Because the wood fibers are curly instead of straight, Curly Sinker Pine can cause the light to reflect in many interesting ways, and offers a spectacular effect that can be used to enhance the appearance of furniture, plus wooden complements and fixtures.

Longleaf Pine is also known as Antique Pine, Heart Pine, and Pitch Pine. This reclaimed lumber is sturdy with a tight growth-ring pattern, making it a favorable choice for interior trim, beams, exterior paneling and flooring. Using rediscovered wood helps preserve our forests by utilizing timber harvested hundreds of years ago while also providing a higher quality lumber.

Longleaf Pine is a popular form of lumber, and even the Longleaf Pine needles that cover the forest floors of the south-eastern United States have today created a multi-million dollar wholesale industry – with the “Longleaf Pine Straw” being harvested for garden mulch. Longleaf Pine lumber itself is extremely affordable, durable and, as is the case with all reclaimed lumber, offers a unique range of attractive color variations.

Sinker Pine, just like Sinker Cypress, is a recovered virgin growth wood that has been buried in the muddy bottoms of northwest Florida’s rivers for many years, and has been retrieved for use in both historic restoration and new construction. Originally cut as far back as 1890, Sinker Pine logs and lumber were transported from the woods to the sawmill by river, where during their journey, many of the larger logs either broke away from the others and sank to the river bottom, or were simply too large to pull from the water with the antiquated handling systems of that time.

The logs would be marked with a number or symbol to determine ownership and differentiate the lumber, with many still visible on the logs today. Bruner Lumber Company is fortunate to own at least 20 of these marks and brands from the original owners of these logs, the JJ McCaskill Timber Company, based out of Walton County in Florida. These brands were officially recorded in Walton County between 1890 and 1920. Sinker Pine is a very hard, sturdy wood, and makes excellent flooring products. In addition to flooring, Sinker Pine is used as rough lumber, tongue & groove, trim, molding and beams.
